FAQs
What if my swimmer can't make it to a meet or a practice? It is imperative to sign out for ANY MEET you cannot attend as soon as you know you'll be absent., via the MEET SIGN OUT tab. It is otherwise assumed your swimmer will be there, and they will be on the Heat Sheet which cannot be changed once we begin. If something last minute arises (after 4pm the day before the meet) please email LastMinuteSignOut@gmail.com immediately. No need to let anyone know about missing a practice. We understand that things come up! That being said, new skills and training will be taught on a daily basis and it may be difficult for your swimmer without consistent attendance. When Coach Andrew selects swimmers for City Meet and relay teams, overall swimmer attendance is taken into consideration. Year-round swimmers are expected to attend one practice per week.
Do I really have to volunteer? Yes! It's fun! The success of JIST hangs on everyone doing their part; each family is required to complete 6 volunteer points per season. A full description of each job is available under the Volunteer tab. Volunteering is tracked and impacts future registration. Families can view their completed points via the link on the home page.
What is a dual meet? It is a meet where we swim against one other team. All of our meets are dual meets except the mock meet (see below) and City Meet (below also).
What is a Mock Meet? On Thursday, May 22nd we will have a swim meet against ourselves to get back in the swing of things and allow new families to see what it's like. We treat the Mock Meet like a real meet, and attendance is important. Volunteer shadowing is encouraged for anyone inexperienced in a role they've signed up to do!
Can my business be a Sponsor? Yes! Please visit our Sponsorship tab for sponsorship information, contact our Board member for Sponsorship, Brittany Wallace at JISTsponsorship@gmail.com.
Are team suits required? Team suits are available for purchase but are not mandatory. Visit the Merchandise Tab; Try-ons and ordering of team suits will occur at the pool from 3:30pm-6:30pm May 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th. Order by 5/9 for a suit arrival by Mock Meet. Your JIST registration fee includes a t-shirt and a latex cap from the City, no suit. Silicone caps will likely be available for purchase; latex caps are free.
What is City Meet? City Meet is the CCAA Championship Meet. Coach Andrew will select swimmers to compete at this meet which is on 7/6/25 at NCAC. Parents will be informed by the last dual meet if their swimmer has been selected to swim at City Meet.
What should my swimmer (and my family) bring to meets? Swimmers need to arrive ready in their suit. Bring their team cap, goggles, chairs (camping style that fold) for everyone, cash or phone to Venmo concessions if desired, WATER, sunscreen, a Sharpie marker, extra towels, a hat, a portable fan if you have one, snacks or dinner if preferred but concessions will be available, a great attitude and your Stingray team spirit! Click here for our Swim Meets 101 page!
What does my swimmer need to bring to practice? Practice start times are not arrival times. Please be on deck ready to swim at your designated practice time (suits, caps, goggles on, with time to set their bag/towel on the bleachers). There are locker rooms available. It is HOT - swimmers need to bring water bottles.
What is JIST's behavior policy? A copy of the behavior reporting form can be found here.
See you next summer, Stingrays!
